Oven-baked breaded wings are baked to crispiness and then smothered in a sweet honey BBQ sauce making one tasty appetizer or dinner item! A sticky and perfectly seasoned honey BBQ chicken wings recipe that tastes like take-out!

It is not a surprise these Honey BBQ made it to our dinner rotation! It makes such a nice dinner item especially when you have a crowd to feed. I’m not a fan of honey in chicken recipes, but after having these for dinner over someone’s house, I wanted the recipe! If you like sticky wings, this recipe is for you! Such an easy and TASTY honey BBQ wings recipe to try!

Why these are the best Honey BBQ wings-

These honey bbq wings have got to be one of the easiest sticky wings recipe because there is NO frying involved or marinating! Everything is pretty much baked in one pan and if you want to keep them warm in the oven for a crowd, simply transfer them to an oven-safe baking dish and pop them in the oven over low heat! They get even sticker!

Tips for making Honey BBQ wings-

  • For crispier wings mix in cornstarch to the flour mixture or use half and half.
  • Broil wings for no more than 3 minutes to prevent over-drying or burning the wings or bake at 500° F for 5 minutes.
  • Make these boneless wings by cutting up chicken breasts or thighs and proceeding with the recipe.
  • Add hot sauce for some heat.
  • Do NOT use parchment paper! Either use a silicone mat or make directly in a greased sheet pan. I’ve realized parchment paper makes the breading on the wings somewhat soggy and not as crisp.
  • Can use different chicken cuts like chicken legs.

Ingredients for Honey BBQ Wings-

How to get sticky wing sauce:

The best way to get a sticky sauce on breaded chicken is to heat the two together. Once coating the breaded chicken pieces with wing sauce, place back into the oven and allow the sauce to slowly seep into the breading. Broiling can speed up the process, but you need to keep an eye out on the chicken to prevent it from over-drying.

How to bake wings:

When baking non-fried breaded chicken pieces try to keep the oven at a high temperature for a crisp texture.

How to make honey BBQ sauce:

To make honey BBQ sauce whisk together raw honey and a prepared bbq sauce of your choice. When adding honey avoid bbq sauces with honey in it to prevent super sweet sauce. I used Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce and raw honey.

How to make honey BBQ chicken wings:

  1. Preheat oven to 425° F. Grease a large baking sheet with cooking spray and set aside.
  2. Toss the flour and spices together into a bowl or zip-loc bag.
  3. Coat the wings in the flour, shaking off any excess flour and place directly onto the prepared pan.
  4. Bake for 45 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, mix the bbq sauce and honey. Coat the baked wings into the sauce and place back onto the sheet pan. Broil 2-3 minutes until wings look sticky and small air bubbles form.

Dipping sauces for Honey BBQ wings-

The best dipping sauces for any kind of wings really would have to be blue cheese or ranch dressing!

If using chicken tenders, do I still keep them in for 45 minutes or just until they are done?

      • Alyona Demyanchuk

Hi Angie, chicken tenders cook fast so I think decreasing the time shouldn’t hurt.
