Side Dishes Recipes
We keep side dishes simple. It’s either starchy potatoes, a pickled vegetable, or a green leafy salad. I always try to keep some kind of canned or frozen veggies on hand for a quick side. Salad Recipes are very popular Ukrainian sides like this hearty Potato Salad made with homemade pickles. When harvest comes for winter cabbage I’ll make jars of homemade sauerkraut that keeps well on my shelf. Most main course meals can use simple side dishes so, keeping an arsenal of go-to recipes is a must.
If you don’t have time to whip up a salad from-scratch, then arranging a vegetable tray is a wise thing to do to in order to clean out the veggie drawer. Plate some vegetables like broccoli, carrot sticks, cauliflower, sweet bell peppers, and cucumbers on a tray and serve it with ranch dressing. Sides are meant to accompany main dishes. If your meat doesn’t have a gravy, make a creamy side. If it does, then make a steamed vegetable side. Don’t over think it, it’s simple! -Chef Alyona
