NOTE: Use as much spinach as you can pack into your baking dish because spinach does shrink quite a bit.

1. First, pack spinach onto the bottom of a baking dish. Top with butter slices and layer the fish fillets over the top

2. Then, combine the sauce ingredients and evenly spread over the top of the casserole. Finally, sprinkle with cheese and bake in a preheated to 500 degrees F oven for 10 minutes.

Note: The thicker the fish fillets the longer you may need to bake your fish.

I rarely do reviews, but this is going to be a great addition to my “fish menu” which was tuna salad sandwiches, tuna noodle casserole, tuna & rice casserole, salmon loaf and talapia (always dry) with lemon pepper. I try to have fish once a week, so those choices were SO inadequate! Well now, I followed the recipe (except for sliced cherry tomatoes under the cheese – actually v. good) and what a treat to have fish that is SO EASY and SO DELICIOUS ! And using only food I always have on hand and NO “Cream of Anything” soup.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you….. And I liked having the spinach not mixed in, but totally holding its own! YES.

Thank You so much, Alyona. I’ve been trying to find ways to bring more Fish into my family’s diet and this dish instantly became a Family Favorite! Even the pickiest of eaters will be a fan of this dish and getting your kids to eat Spinach will never be easier.

I’ve made this at least 10 times over the last year. Thanks so much for sharing it.

Oh wonderful, Jennifer! Thanks for sharing that with me!

My husband loves this casserole! I reduced the oven temperature to 350 degrees, and bake for 25 minutes. I also added some lemon juice to the sauce. Always turns out great!

Thank you for the feedback, Karen!

Made this and the whole family loved it. My granddaughter took a bite and said “oh my gosh this is so good!” Definitely a keeper. Could you use cod fillets with this?

      • Alyona

Absolutely! I’m so happy to hear!

I made this for the first time tonight and my family loved it. It’s a simple meal, but packs a lot of flavor. I did not have fresh tilapia, so I used a 2lb bag of frozen tilapia fillets. I did thaw it out the night before and followed the recipe. I used cajun seasoning instead of old bay and mozzarella instead of Monterey Jack because that’s what I had. I baked it in the preheated 500 degree oven for 10 minutes as stated in the recipe, but the fish wasn’t cooked all the way. I lowered the heat to 385 and baked it for another 20 minutes which was perfect. This is definitely going to be a staple recipe in my household.

      • Alyona

Oh good, Janice! Thanks for the tips!

    • Cindi

Family loved this! The only change I made was the spice. (I don’t do hot spices.) I don’t have Old Bay seasoning or Adobo seasoning so I used chili powder.

      Thanks for the tip, Cindy!

This was a fabulous recipe! It was very easy and was one of the best tilapia recipes we’ve tried. The fish was moist and perfectly cooked. We will keep this one for future! Easy and quick last-minute dinner solution.

      Wonderful! So glad to hear!

    • Betsy

Super easy and completely delicious! I was able to substitute plain yogurt for some of the sour cream and mayonnaise and it still tastes great but with less fat/calories. Good enough to serve to company and get rave reviews, which we have done!

      • Alyona’s Cooking

That’s wonderful to hear, Betsy! Thanks for the low calorie tip!
