Zaxbys Chicken Fingers or Wings?
Zaxby’s famous chicken comes in boneless or traditional wings and the chicken fingers-style. Any variety can be tossed in your choice of Zaxby’s sauce. My favorite is the Zaxbys boneless wings in a honey mustard wing sauce. It’s less messy than eating bone-in chicken and the boneless style can easily be transformed into a sandwich or enjoyed from a fork.
This fried chicken recipe is irresistibly tender and crispy thanks to the bite-sized boneless wings that get tenderized in a quick baking soda marinade and then hand-breaded to the best homemade chicken coating.

Further ado, I’ve simplified the recipe for the Zaxby’s Chicken Copycat and after comparing both side-by-side with the real thing, I was told the homemade chicken was way better!

The main difference between both honey mustard sauces is that the hot honey mustard sauce has cayenne pepper for additional spice. Whereas, regular honey mustard sauce is more of a yellow hue due to the lack of ground cayenne.

Ingredients
- 3 lbs chicken breast (cut into strips or chunks)
Breading:
- 3 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 Tbsp seasoned salt (Lawry's)
- 1 Tbsp salt
- 1 tsp Adobo seasoning
- 1 Tbsp pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp onion powder and garlic powder
- 2 Tbsp sugar
Wet Batter:
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
Instructions
Instructions:
- Whisk together the wet batter and set aside.
- In a large bowl combine the breading.
- Dip the chicken pieces into the wet batter then into the dry breading and press coating into the meat.
- Shake off any excess flour and fry in 2-inches of oil until done and meat reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Arrange the fried chicken pieces onto a sheet pan lined with a cooling rack. Keep warm in an oven until all the chicken pieces finish frying.
- Toss in Zaxbys Honey Mustard Sauce and serve with crunchy celery sticks.
