Dehydrator Recipes

I use the dehydrator mainly for recipes like making seasonings, dried fruit, and beef jerky. Our ancestors learned this simple preserving technique without it. My great grandmother dried bread and soaked it in a cup of tea for a mid- day snack. Cookies were dried to get crispy so that they lasted longer. Herbs were collected from the garden to dry and use in herbal teas and natural remedies.

Drying is actually an effortless task done by simply leaving something out to dry. I love to pick red raspberry leaves from our garden and set it right by the window on a rack, in a couple of days it’s dry and perfect for making hot tea!

My favorite dehydrator recipes are Homemade Vegeta Seasoning (an all-purpose seasoning made from vegetables), Lemon pepper (dried lemon peels mixed with black pepper), and Venison jerky. I’ve also made my own supplements like drying chicken livers from our homegrown chickens to make liver powder. It’s a handy appliance for preserving food.
