Winter Recipes
Winter recipes for me are warming soups, slow roasting meats simmering all day, and “everything” comfort food. This means foods like creamy mashed potatoes and rich casseroles. It’s also the time to gather with family and friends for Holiday gatherings and trying others decadent desserts. Hearty meals just taste better in the colder months! By the end of winter I am completely content with a simple menu of easy slow cooker recipes and soups.
My sister and I both agree that other popular winter dishes include, baked ham, and scalloped potatoes. Roasted meats with homemade gravy from all the drippings are other comforting meals. I also think of all the Holiday staples at Christmas, warm chili, meaty sloppy joes, and Salisbury steak.
I find that my freezer and pantry overflow with freshly frozen corn and all the canned foods that I preserved during the summer’s harvest. These are ready to be used in a winter’s comforting meal. Everything about winter, from its short cold days, to its simple and comforting meals, is a reminder that this season was designed by God for my body to rest.
