I’m sharing an easy chicken gyro recipe with tzatziki sauce that tastes delicious and doesn’t require a rotisserie cone!

These homemade chicken gyros are not that hard to make. A bit more time consuming if making your own pita bread but so worth it! Common ingredients seen in most gyro recipes or tzatziki sauces include yogurt or sour cream, and really either one can be used since both are from cultured milk. I made my own pita bread for this recipe (which was the best flatbread, I’ve ever made!) But you can totally use store-bought to cut down on time. And if you haven’t already known ranch dressing works as an amazing marinade in chicken recipes like these Chicken Kabobs, and that’s what I have going on here. With a quick prep and some countertop marinating you can have gyros in as quick as 20 minutes!

P.S. You NEED to try this pita bread recipe, it’s simply awesome!

How to make Homemade tzatziki sauce quickly:

This tzatziki sauce recipe requires no marinating time, which means you can make and serve it immediately! To make things even quicker I just grate an English cucumber straight into a Colliander then squeeze any excess juice from the cucumber right into the sink from the Colliander. This saves time and dishes!

How to throw a Chicken Gyro Buffet:

Throwing a Gyro party allows your guests to dress up their Gyros the way they want without you having to assemble them! Gyros should really have about a handful of ingredients so the toppings don’t have to go overboard. Just lay out all the ready to use ingredients onto a table and let your guests get creative with the toppings you display.

Toppings for gyros:
  • purple or sweet onions
  • feta cheese
  • cucumbers
  • tomatoes
  • tzatziki sauce
  • Grilled chicken pieces

I need to make this for my husband, even your pita bread from scratch. He mentioned before of trying gyros. Would be a nice suprise. Is lemon neccesary? He is allergic to citrus.

Hi Olga, The pita bread recipe was amazing so definitely consider that! I think you could skip the lemon juice without any problem, there should be enough flavors to cover that missing ingredient. Let me know how the gyros turn out for you and your husband!
