Q&A

How To Make Cheddar Bay Biscuits From Scratch?

One of the tastiest biscuits with cheese is the Cheddar Bay Biscuits from Red Lobster! These drop biscuits are made from a dry mix of flour, herbs, baking powder, cheddar cheese, and milk (or buttermilk.) To make them follow these directions:

  1. Before you began pre-heat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with a mat or parchment paper; set aside.
  2. Stir together the biscuit dough until all the flour is incorporated. (Don’t overmix.)
  3. Scoop or drop 1/4 cup of dough onto the prepared baking sheet 2-inches apart.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden.
  5. Meanwhile, melt the herb butter sauce. Spoon or brush HOT biscuits immediately. Serve.

What’s In Cheddar Bay Biscuits? The main ingredients found in Red Lobster Biscuit Mix Ingredients: Enriched Bleached Flour, Palm and Soybean Oil, Baking Soda, Salt, Sodium Aluminum Phosphate, Monocalcium Phosphate, Dextrose, Buttermilk, Ascorbic Acid, Enzymes, Garlic Herb Blend Ingredients: Garlic Powder, Maltodextrin, Salt, Onion Powder, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Torula Yeast, Dehydrated Parsley, Malic Acid, Sugar, Natural and Artificial Flavors.

Can I Make-Ahead?

To make biscuit mix beforehand, mix together the dry ingredients and store them in an air-tight container. Do not add the liquid until ready to bake. The longer the batter sits the less effective the leavening can get. You want to form the dough just before baking.

Storing Biscuits?

Storing: Store leftover biscuits in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

To Freeze Biscuits: Cool and store in an airtight freezer bag or make a freezer batch. Bake frozen wrapped in foil until hot (about 20 minutes) or microwave until hot (about 2-3 minutes.)

To Reheat: biscuits from the fridge it’s best to steam them in a toaster oven covered in foil for about 8 minutes. Microwave every two biscuits for up to 1 minute.

Can I Substitute for Buttermilk?

Milk is something I tend to have on hand. Buttermilk is usually added in conjunction with baking soda to quench any bitterness. Since these cheddar bay biscuits call for all baking powder it is safe to use milk with no bitter after taste. If you still wish to use buttermilk, go for it.

Quick Buttermilk Substitute:

  • 3/4 cup milk + 1/4 cup vinegar= 1 cup buttermilk

Tips for Biscuits:

  1. Make a big batch of freezer biscuits to bake for later!
  2. Use buttermilk if using baking soda for your biscuit dough.
  3. Don’t over mix the batter. Biscuits are ready to scoop when you don’t see dry flour.
  4. Melt the butter on the stovetop to avoid it exploding in the microwave!
