Unos Shrimp Crab Dip Recipe

The love for this hot shrimp dip began when a group of us ordered this Shrimp and Crab dip from Uno’s. I loved it so much I wanted to recreate it at home. I made this shrimp dip recipe to the best of my dining experience and can gladly report that it is amazing!

If you’ve never had Uno’s appetizer, I can tell you now, this is the only way I make a shrimp dip, period. It’s easy to make and you can use raw or cooked shrimp. Now, if you’re looking for a stuffed shrimp appetizer this one is the only one to have with a melted butter sauce (yum!)

I typically omit the crab meat to make a quick appetizer as I can throw frozen shrimp into a bowl to quickly thaw. Besides, I’m likely to have lump crab meat and my husband is opposed to imitation crab meat. So, I simply omit it for this recipe, but, seafood lovers can add 2 oz of crab meat to the shrimp dip.

Q&A

Do I Use Cooked Or Uncooked Shrimp?

A hot shrimp dip can be made with either raw or already cooked pink shrimp since it will be baked. Shrimp can cook in minutes and this shrimp dip bakes within 15 minutes, giving it enough time to cook thoroughly.

To infuse a shrimp dip with the most flavor, I recommend large raw shrimp that you can dice and chunk quickly. However, small pink shrimp will work great too! Raw shrimp can flavor the cheeses and cream like a shrimp broth, which is why it’s best to cook shrimp meat rather than using canned shrimp.

How To Make Hot Shrimp Dip?

Completely thaw the shrimp before beginning.

  • To Begin: first melt and combine the cream cheese, heavy cream, mayonnaise, oil, and garlic powder in a medium saucepan or non-stick skillet.
  • Remove from heat and add 2 Tablespoons of parmesan cheese, 1 cup of white cheddar cheese, dried tyme, parsley, garlic, shrimp, and half of the diced tomatoes.
  • Transfer dip into an oven-safe baking dish.
  • Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes.
  • Garnish and top the hot shrimp dip with the reserved diced tomatoes and dried parsley.

Note: always pat dry the raw shrimp before baking to avoid a watery dip. Don’t overbake the dip.

Ingredients for Baked Shrimp Dip:

This shrimp dip is with cream cheese and makes a quick snack or appetizer for any occasion. It is not a cold shrimp dip and doesn’t require sour cream. Here are the ingredients:

  • Baguette Slices- use store mini toasts or make your own by drizzling melting butter (or oil) over the bread slices and some dried herbs and parmesan cheese.
  • Cheese- a creamy blend of cream cheese, parmesan cheese, and white cheddar cheese make this dip taste phenomenal!
  • Heavy Cream- use heavy whipping cream.
  • Mayonnaise- Hellman’s brand or Dukes is what I usually have on hand.
  • Oil- I used sunflower oil.
  • Garlic- both garlic powder and fresh garlic cloves are used in this recipe.
  • Shrimp- cooked or raw peeled and deveined shrimp can be used for a hot shrimp dip. Feel free to season the shrimps with Louisiana hot sauce, cajun seasoning, or Old Bay seasoning for extra flavor.
  • Tomatoes- dice one tomato and reserve half for the garnish.

Storing?

Leftover shrimp dip can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat leftovers on a stove or reheat in the oven or microwave, stirring occasionally.

What To Serve With Shrimp Dip?

Hot dips go with crunchy baguette slices or crackers. Here are some dipping options:

Handy Equipment:

BEST Shrimp Dip Tips:

  1. Pat dry the thawed shrimp before adding to the dip to avoid a watery mess.
  2. Toast the baguette slices first.
  3. Do not overbake the dip as it can tend to release more liquid the longer the shrimp cooks.
  4. Don’t have fresh tomatoes? Use a Can of Rotel tomatoes.

Can this be fixed in a mini crockpot

      • Alyona Demyanchuk

Hi Vickie, I think it work just fine in a crockpot.

This was great comfort food! I topped with a mixture of panko, blackened seasoning and a tbsp of butter and broiled until golden brown and crispy. My bf LOVES it and is not a big seafood guy. Satisfies on a bitter cold day! Pair it with a nice glass of Rombauer Chardonnay.
